Workshops
This is just a brief overview of the workshops that I give. I am always striving for finding new ways to engage and have some artistic fun with kids and adults. A half day workshop is $400.00 for 3-4 hrs. Instruction materials, travel, accomodation and meals are not included. A full day workshop is $700.00 for 6-7 hrs. Instruction materials, travel, accomodation and meals are not included.
In this workshop we learn about pictographs, petroglyphs and ledger drawings. Then we begin a number of small projects that get the participants working together to create visual language to retell stories.
In this workshop we are learning to use collage as a way of expressing what you know. The day starts with a powerpoint demonstration of my personal use of visual essay then we spend the rest of the day going through various fun and mixed media techniques to build in layer of understanding.
This is a hands on workshop that shows 3 different fun bookmaking projects that can easily be adapted to many different areas of cirriculum or healing.
would be an all day multi-day workshop where we introduce youth to techniques and strategies to being expressive through art. This workshop takes all youth from where they are at artistically to bolder expressions by asking them to just have fun and explore line, colour and composition. We explore: Gesture Drawing, Gesture Painting and Frantic Collage.
Overcoming the Fear of Being Perfect through Mixed Media experimentation.
This workshop is a hybrid learning tool. I teach both Contemporary Aboriginal Art History but I adapt it so that the participants (youth) can begin the process of developing a visual language to begin expressing their knowledge in similar ways. I start with pictographs and petroglyphs, move into ledger drawings and the Indian Group of 7. I use a teaching circle, powerpoint presentations and hands on activities.
This is a series of fun activities to get youth working together on huge chunks of curriculum. The first project is a 3-word play designed to break down the fear of being singled out. It will also get the youth figuring out where they fit in their teams. The second project is a 9-word play which is written by and performed by them. The duration of the workshop varies on the final product. It takes longer if they are required to design sets, props and costumes.
